The career of Judge Brett Kavanaugh rests in the hands of the likes of 85-year-old California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who had to be corrected by her staff when she declared her employees didn’t leak the controversial letter to the senator from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.
As senators sparred with each other about the process and the chaotic hearing, Sen. John Cornyn asked Feinstein if her staff leaked the letter.
“Can you tell us your staff did not leak it?” Cornyn asked.
“I don’t believe my staff would leak it. I have not asked that question directly,” Feinstein replied as a staffer leaned over her chair and whispered in her ear.
“How in the world did it get into the hands of press?” Cornyn quizzed.
“The answer is no,” Feinstein said flatly.
“Have you asked your staff?” Cornyn continued.
“I just did,” Feinstein replied, despite not visibly uttering any words to her staffer.
“Jen reminds me I’ve asked her before about it.”
Feinstein is up for re-election to another 6-year term this November and being challenged by another Democrat in the general election.
