Yes, Bill Clinton’s relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinsky was an abuse of power, #MeToo founder Tarana Burke says in a rebuke of Hillary Clinton.

Speaking to The Root, Burke called Hillary’s downplaying Clinton’s abuse of Lewinsky “tragic and wrong.”

“When I think about the things that Hillary Clinton’s saying about the Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton affair not being an abuse of power, that is just tragic and it’s wrong,” Burke says.

“This was consensual, but it certainly was an abuse of power. You’re talking about an age dynamic, but you’re also talking about the President of the United States,” she laughs.

“The amount of accumulated power that is in that position alone, versus an intern, it absolutely is an abuse of power,” Burke confirms.

“It’s unfortunate that it wasn’t used as a moment to be accountable,” she says.

Burke says the abuse of power “doesn’t mean that he has to step down from his position, but it was an abuse of power that I’m sure he regrets.”

Last weekend, Hillary bristled at the idea that her husband’s affair was an “abuse of power.”

Hillary asserted Lewinsky “was an adult” during the abuse.

“But let me ask you this,” she continued, “where’s the investigation of the current incumbent,” trying to change the subject.

When asked if her husband should have resigned in the wake of the scandal, she snapped, “Absolutely not.”

She denied it was an abuse of power.

Burke says there would be “harm reduction” if Bill Clinton admitted his abuse of power.

“What that does is reduce some of the harm that Monica experienced in that whole exchange, because she was a kid,” she says.
