Awkward!
Michigan Democrat congressional candidate Elissa Slotkin suffered an embarrassing moment on Friday when she was attempting to deliver a dramatic line while introducing President Obama, but completely blew it.
Wrapping herself in the former president, Slotkin said, “I served two presidents, Republican and Democrat, and I was there the day Barack Obama came into the White House.
“And he kept me on because he knows what we all know: that it must be party before country. Always.
“Always,” she repeated for effect.
The flub triggered confusion and mixed reactions in the Detroit crowd.
Audible grumbling grew before she stopped her remarks to try to process yells from the crowd.
“You mean country before party!” a woman shouted.
Slotkin seemed confused, trying to decipher corrections coming from the crowd.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” she finally said.
“I’m like, damn, this is a hard crowd!” she said.
“I was like, I was like, this is a really tough room,” Slotkin said, before claiming Obama put the country before his party.
