The 29-year-old socialist congresswoman-elect may be setting her sights high, despite apparently being too poor to afford an apartment.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez attempted to laugh off — but didn’t reject — the prospect of running for Speaker of the House when she was asked a question about the prospect.

Appearing on Democracy Now, Amy Goodman smirked and asked, “Who needs to lead the House and would you consider the possibility of being the Speaker yourself?”

“Uh, I mean, I don’t want to bite off more than I can chew,” Cortez said, laughing. “I just won my seat.”

That wasn’t a “No.”

Referring to the prospect of a Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Cortez said, “In terms of her leadership, in context, we need to see what our options are,” adding she wouldn’t want candidates “running to her right.”

“We need to make sure we are electing party leadership with strong commitments to putting Medicare For All, tuition-free-college and more at the top of the agenda,” she said.

Meanwhile, Cortez groused to the New York Times that she can’t afford an apartment in Washington, D.C. because she’s not getting a paycheck, yet.

“I have three months without a salary before I’m a member of Congress, so how do I get an apartment?” Ocasio-Cortez said. “Those little things are very real.”
