Everything seemed fine — until the giant wave crashed into a tent holding dozens of people and a band playing pop music.
Freelance journalist Sotiri Dimpinoudis tweeted video showing the band “Seventeen” on stage in Indonesia when suddenly, the lights flicker, and the curtain behind them gives way as a wall of water comes crashing through.
Here it is via Al Jeezera:
The band’s singer says the manager and bass player were killed.
CNN reports:
“I just want to say that our bass player Bani and our manager Oki Wijaya passed away,” Riefian Fajarsyah said sobbing.
Three other band members as well as Fajarsyah’s wife, whose birthday is Sunday, remain missing, he said.
“Please pray that we can find Andi, Herman and Ujang and my wife.”
The tsunami was reportedly triggered by undersea landslides, which were generated by a volcanic eruption.
