Just when you thought CNN couldn’t stoop any lower, they find a way to outdo themselves.

CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota interviewed the brother of a detained American on Wednesday, but she bizarrely spent most of the segment grilling him about his brother’s alleged anti-CNN posts on social media.

The segment began with Camerota speaking with David Whelan, the brother of Paul Whelan, a former Marine who was detained in Russia earlier this week on allegations that he’s an American spy.

Camerota grilled David about his brother’s alleged social media posts, where he shared memes that referred to CNN as “fake news.”

“There are some strange elements of your brother’s story,” Camerota said, playing up the theatrics and acting as if there was some justifiable reason that he was detained.

Camerota then detailed one of the memes that Paul had shared, noting that the caption of the photo stated, “Just drinking coffee and watching fake news.”

“Now, I’m not taking this personally that he’s pictured with CNN, but I just am wondering is this a statement on his part somehow?” she asked.

David’s face was completely bewildered as it was more than obvious he was stunned by the question.

He responded by saying he wasn’t concerned about his brother’s social media posts and only cared about getting him home safe.

“I don’t know what’s on his page,” Whelan said. “I don’t follow him on social media other than Twitter, which is where I am. I don’t know what he was intending by those photos.”

Camerota continued to grill him, again asking why the detained American had a “Russian social media presence.”

David remained calm and responded by saying his brother likely kept his social media pages so he could keep in contact with people he met in the Marines.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters on Wednesday that the U.S. was working to get more information on Paul, who faces up to 20 years in prison in Russia if convicted.

“We’ve made clear to the Russians our expectation that we will learn more about the charges, come to understand what it is he’s been accused of and if the detention is not appropriate we will demand his immediate return,” he said.

Of course, Camerota wasn’t concerned with a former U.S. Marine being detained in Russia.

She was more upset that the former American serviceman was sharing anti-CNN memes that referred to the left-leaning network as “fake news.”

This is the second time in recent weeks Camerota has gone off-the-rails and sabotaged a segment.

Last month, Camerota asked Colorado Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper if 2020 is “the right time” for a “white guy” to run for president.

“You know the debate that the Democratic Party is having right now — is it time to have somebody of color and a woman and somebody younger?” Camerota asked. “Or somebody more establishment?”
