In a sign that “Black Lives Matter” is effectively no longer existent, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi escaped unharmed a moment when she told a race activist that “all lives matter.”
During a town hall meeting with MSNBC on Friday, Pelosi was asked if she supports “the Black Lives Matter movement.”
“Well, I support the recognition that black lives matter for sure,” Pelosi responded.
“And I have incorporated that in many of my statements. I think all lives matter, yes. But we really have to redress past grievances in terms of how we have addressed the African-American co…” she said, awkwardly stepping on her words to move on.
“I had the real privilege yesterday to address the black caucus, swearing in of the new black caucus members. Eight— at least 8 new members elected from places that are not majority-black communities. So this was a real breakthrough,” she said.
“So I think that we’re all working together to make sure that every part of our community, whether it’s the immigrant community, whether it’s the black community, whether it’s women’s community and the rest, not only matter, but rule,” Pelosi said.
She didn’t specify whether legal immigrants “should rule,” or if she’s okay with illegal immigrants ruling America, too.
Less than three years ago, leftists deemed “all lives matter” to be a racist statement.
Huffington Post contributor Jesse Damiani wrote in 2016, “If you subscribe to the premise of ‘All Lives Matter,’ it’s likely that you live in a predominantly white area and the majority of your social group is white.”
He went on:
When you say “All Lives Matter,” you’re drawing attention away from a movement that would help push the country toward the version of itself where all lives actually do matter. In other words, when you say “All Lives Matter,” you are perpetuating toxic racism and in fact causing harm. Because when you do, you’re making it harder for the rest of the country to bring about positive change. You’re broadcasting to others that change isn’t necessary when it very much is.
It should also be noted Pelosi’s statement that immigrants “should rule” should give black Americans pause.
The Daily Signal reported in 2017:
As the Trump administration gets ready to tackle illegal immigration, a member of the U.S. Civil Rights Commission noted the impact on the black community that he believes is too often ignored.
“Black males are more likely to experience competition from illegal immigrants,” Commissioner Peter Kirsanow told The Daily Signal.
Kirsanow, an attorney in Cleveland and former member of the National Labor Relations Board, said illegal immigration is both a short-term and long-term problem for young black males.
“What happens is you eliminate the rungs on the ladder because a sizable number of black men don’t have access to entry-level jobs,” Kirsanow told the news site.
“It is not just the competition and the unemployment of blacks. It also depresses the wage levels.”
