Progressives are running out of reasons to oppose President Donald Trump’s border wall.
On Monday, MSNBC’s Katy Tur argued that a mythical dragon could destroy Trump’s wall along the border between the United States and Mexico.
Tur began the segment on her show by claiming Trump “has to be build the wall” or his “base will flounder” and his presidency will simply be no more.
She then discussed the partial government shutdown and how Republicans and Democrats are hashing it out over funding for a border wall.
Rather than provide any meaningful analysis on the subject, Tur decided to spend time discussing the HBO show Game of Thrones.
Trump has been using a Game of Thrones-style meme that features a border wall and the statement “the wall is coming.”
The meme Trump used pays homage to the Game of Thrones slogan “Winter is Coming.”
“The posters’ presence last week, used to amplify the president’s call for a wall, a physical barrier, all but solidifies that the president is not an avid watcher of ‘Game of Thrones,’” Tur said.
The MSNBC host then played a clip from the last season of Game of Thrones where a mythical dragon destroys a border wall.
“The ice dragon, I said that right, the ice dragon, [and] no more wall. So, what’s going to happen next season? I don’t know, I guess you’re going to have to tune into this presidency to find out,” Tur said.
Tur was serious about the segment while she pushed a ridiculous talking point about opposing the border wall.
While her anti-wall comments may have been the most absurd of all, she’s hardly the first liberal to come up with an embarrassing reason to oppose the wall.
Robert “Beto” O’Rourke thinks the border wall is killing people.
During a town hall in El Paso, Texas, the failed senatorial candidate argued that the wall is the reason why an increasing number of migrants have died.
“The number of people dying at the U.S.-Mexico border in some years has grown,” O’Rourke said.
“In some years has grown because it’s connected to that wall that we have already built that pushes people who are at their most desperate and vulnerable to ever-more inhospitable stretches of the Chihuahua Desert,” he added.
Border Patrol reported 329 migrant deaths in 2016. In 2017, 294 deaths. Seven were children. The solution is not more walls. It's not more partisanship and rhetoric. It's making sure our laws match our values as a nation of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers the world over. pic.twitter.com/tFHy9AvCZb

O’Rourke appeared to be arguing that the wall and other border barriers were at fault because it forced migrants to seek more dangerous routes to illegally enter the country.
Prior to that, Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Oregon, said he’s opposing a border wall because people can’t see through it.
During a segment on CNN, Merkley was grilled by host Alisyn Camerota about why Democrats previously supported a border fence and other resources, but now refuse to give Trump hardly anything for his border wall.
“Yeah, border security, including fencing, is — I’ve been to the border, I’ve seen the fencing, you can see through it,” he claimed, offering arguably the weakest excuse yet for why Democrats won’t support the wall.
He doubled down on this ridiculous assertion and was oblivious to the fact that immigration officials would have a slew of options to see over the wall.
“In fact, the border guard itself says a concrete wall is an absolute mistake. They said that the border guard needs to be able to see what’s going on on the other side, that the wall doesn’t stop any bad things from happening, it just makes it impossible for the folks on our side to see what’s developing. It makes it more difficult for them,” he added.
Despite pushing for a socialist “Medicare for all” plan that experts argue would cost the United States a jaw-dropping $218 trillion over the next 30 years, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., is also now concerned about paying for things.
In response to the U.S. House of Representatives approving $5.7 billion in funding for the wall, the 29-year-old socialist took to Twitter to claim “no one’s asking the GOP how they’re paying for it.”
And just like that, GOP discovers $5.7 billion for a wall.
$5.7 billion
What if we instead added $5.7B in teacher pay?
Or replacing water pipes?
Or college tuition/prescription refill subsidies?
Or green jobs? But notice how no one’s asking the GOP how they’re paying for it. https://t.co/jXdm1w9bpy

Trump wants at least $5 billion for border wall funding and Democrats are only agreeing to $1.7 billion, which they claim is a “very generous offer.”
But according to Tur’s logic, there’s no point in even securing the border because mythical dragons can’t be stopped.
