A draft of a new rules package shows that the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives is moving to remove the words “so help you God” from the oath administered to witnesses testifying before the panel.
As noted by Fox News, this incredibly drastic measure is part of the new rules package House Democrat-controlled committees are expected to approve later this week.
According to the draft, the rules proposal shows that the House Committee on Natural Resources would ask witnesses to recite only: “Do you solemnly swear or affirm, under penalty of law, that the testimony that you are about to give is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?”
In the draft, the words “So help you God” are in red brackets, meaning it appears Democrats want them to be removed.
Republican leaders were stunned on Tuesday when asked about the proposed change, which many argue is another sign of how far to the left Democrats are going on the political spectrum.
“It is incredible, but not surprising, that the Democrats would try to remove God from committee proceedings in one of their first acts in the majority,” said Rep. Liz Cheney, the chairwoman of the House Republican Conference. “They really have become the party of Karl Marx.”
The proposed rule change comes as several far-left progressive freshman lawmakers in Congress — such as Reps. Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota — have come under fire recently for making radical and anti-Semitic comments.
In 2012, Omar wrote: “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.”
For her part, Tlaib was recently accused of using an anti-Semitic slur by suggesting Republican lawmakers were only loyal to Israel and not America.
Both Omar and Tlaib made history back in November by becoming the first-ever Muslim women elected to serve in the U.S. Congress.
