Rep. Al Green isn’t going to let House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stand in the way of him attempting to impeach President Trump.
The Texas congressman — who has repeatedly pushed impeachment since Trump’s inauguration — responded to Pelosi’s announcement yesterday that pursuing impeachment is “not worth it”.
“This is something I have heard before. This is not something new, whether the president is worth it. But it’s really not about him. It’s not about Democrats, it’s about democracy. It’s not about Republicans, it’s about the republic,” he said.
“And the question that we really have to ask ourselves is whether the country is ‘worth it,'” Green said.
“There will be another vote on impeachment,” he vowed.
“Now, there’s a way to stop me. If you desire to stop me,” he continued, turning from looking at the CSPAN host to looking directly into the camera, “you but only have to change the rules so that I can’t bring a vote on impeachment, otherwise I will.”
On Monday, Pelosi said she would not pursue impeachment.
MSN reports:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in an interview that she opposes moving to impeach President Trump even though she believes he is “unfit” for office — her first definitive statement on the subject and one that stands to alienate members of her own Democratic Party who are intent on ousting the president.
“I’m not for impeachment,” she said in a March 6 interview conducted for a future issue of The Washington Post Magazine.
“This is news,” she added. “I haven’t said this to any press person before. But since you asked, and I’ve been thinking about this, impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path because it divides the country. And he’s just not worth it.”
Pelosi believes Trump is fundamentally unfit for office.
When asked about the president’s fitness, Pelosi reportedly responded, “Are we talking ethically? Intellectually? Politically? What are we talking here?”
The reporter said all, and Pelosi said, “All of the above. No. No. I don’t think he is.”
“I mean, ethically unfit. Intellectually unfit. Curiosity-wise unfit. No, I don’t think he’s fit to be president of the United States.”
