Despite demanding President Donald Trump release his tax returns immediately, Sen. Bernie Sanders still won’t say when he’ll release his own.

During an interview Sunday on CBS’ “Face The Nation,” Sanders was asked by host Margaret Brennan about his pledge last month to release his tax returns.

The Vermont socialist largely dodged the question, arguing that he will release them “sooner than later” and claimed he is still dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s.

“We will. We have it all done. It’s just a question of dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s,” Sanders said.

“Yes, we will, absolutely.”

When Brennan attempted to ask a follow-up question, Sanders cut her off and demanded that Trump release his tax returns.

“By the way, let me challenge President Trump to do the same,” Sanders said.

“Trust me, we do not have investments in Russia or Saudi Arabia or any place else. Yes, we will be releasing them,” Sanders repeated.

Sanders pledged during a Feb 25 CNN town hall that he would be releasing his taxes “sooner than later,” but he has yet to release them.

CNN’s David Gelles took to Twitter on Thursday and shared a transcript of the town hall, where Sanders unequivocally stated that he would release his tax returns.

“Sen. Bernie Sanders said at a CNN town hall on February 25 he would release 10 years of tax returns ‘sooner than later.’ It’s been 31 days and they have not yet been released,” Gelles wrote.

But that was 31 days ago, and Sanders has yet to release any of his returns to the public.

This comes just days after Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who is also running for president, released 12 years of her tax returns to the public.

While Gillibrand undoubtedly thought she was making a smart political move, her returns actually proved that she not only pays a much tax lower rate than most Americans, she has also enjoyed “significant savings” from the GOP tax cuts that were implemented in 2017.

According to Bloomberg:

Gillibrand, who has said the tax law is an example of ‘Washington’s culture of soft-corruption at its worst,’ got a tax cut worth several thousand dollars, according to two accountants who reviewed the returns.

The exact comparison is difficult because Gillibrand reported more in income in 2017 than in 2018, but Gillibrand saw ‘significant savings’ from the tax bill, said Michael Knight, an accountant at Knight Rolleri Sheppard in Fairfield, Connecticut.

Gillibrand and her husband, Jonathan, reported $167,634 from her congressional salary and an additional $50,000 from her book deal, and paid $29,170 in federal taxes. Jonathan Gillibrand reported no income in 2018.

So, Sanders refuses to release his own tax returns, but is demanding Trump release his.

And when Gillibrand made hers available to the public, she exposed herself as paying a tax lower rate much lower than most Americans and has been saving a lot of money because of the Republican tax cuts, which she has raged against.
