Former Vice President Joe Biden isn’t sweating the likes of socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez criticizing him for his “middle of the road” solutions for the alleged climate crisis.
He’s been leading the “green revolution” since before AOC was alive, Biden said, and “they should calm down a little bit” before getting bent out of shape about his supposed lack of bold solutions.
Biden was chilling in a booth with some frozen yogurt, chatting up some older ladies at a Concord, New Hampshire campaign stop on Tuesday, when one woman prodded the 76-year-old career politician about criticism on climate change from AOC and other socialists.
The woman offered a quote from AOC: “I will be damned if the same politicians who refused to act are gonna try to come back today and say we need a middle of the road approach to save our lives.”
Biden pounced before the woman even finished her question.
“You’ve never heard me say middle of the road, I’ve never been middle of the road on the environment and tell her to check, you know, um, the uh, the uh, the statement that I made and look at my record. She’ll find that nobody has been more consistent about taking on the environment and the green revolution that I have,” he said.
Biden then dismissed AOC’s comment with his signature campaign smile.
“But do you think your climate change plan will enough for progressives who want a bold solution, like the Green New Deal?” the woman pressed.
“I do. I do,” Biden said, gazing down at his frozen yogurt as he repeatedly spooned the frozen treat. “Cause all they got to do is go back and read what I’ve done already and you will be hearing very shortly the totality of what I plan on doing.
“So, this is a long campaign, and uh, everybody, they should calm down a little bit and take a look at the record,” he continued. “There’s nothing that’s been middle of the road about my effort dealing with the environment. Nothing.”
“If you look at, uh, what’s that outfit, fact checks?” Biden said. “They said that I had a consistent great record on the environment and been a game-changer from the time I got involved.”
Biden pointed to $90 billion the Obama administration spent on green energy as a major accomplishment.
“There’s much more to do,” he said. “We do need a green revolution. I made a speech on the floor back in 1987 talking about why there is existential threats to humanity if we don’t move.”
“So this idea that I haven’t done anything, take a look at the record,” he recapped with another trademarked smile.
Biden’s referenced remarks in Congress, if correct, come two years before AOC came into the world.
The freshman congresswoman from New York has made climate change her signature issue and repeatedly pointed to a United Nations report alleging the planet is doomed if politicians don’t fix the environment in the next 10 years.
AOC criticized 2020 presidential candidates in her party during a recent rally for her Green New Deal for failing to take drastic measures to confront the alleged crisis. She also lashed out at critics of her plan – which includes an end to air travel, eliminating fossil fuels, government guaranteed jobs and housing and college, and money for folks who don’t want to work – for claiming it’s “too much.”
