President Trump said today he doesn’t think he’s ever even spoken to the resigning head of the agency tasked with a signature campaign pledge: Securing the southern border.
Acting Customs and Border Protection Commissioner John Sanders is reportedly set to quit on July 5, and Trump was asked about it in the Oval Office this afternoon.
When a reporter quizzed whether the President asked Sanders to resign, Trump responded, “I didn’t speak to him. I don’t think I’ve ever spoken to him, actually.”
About CBP, he added, “We have some very good people running it and, you know, I don’t know anything about it.”

“Although I will leave it to you to determine whether I was successful, I can unequivocally say that helping support the amazing men and women of CBP has been the most fulfilling and satisfying opportunity of my career,” Sander wrote to CBP employees, according to CNN.
