Socialist Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is stuffing back-to-school backpacks with propaganda posters to “push us to imagine our future with a Green New Deal.”
The giveaway marks the launch of AOC’s Green New Deal art series that she plans to sell to “local communities across America” along with “GND reusables” and other merchandise, with the free posters only available to privileged New York City youngsters.
Surprise!✨I am thrilled to announce the launch of our #GreenNewDeal art series with custom Bronx & Queens GND posters.

“Surprise! I am thrilled to announce the launch of our #GreenNewDeal art series with custom Bronx & Queens GND posters,” Ocasio-Cortez posted to Twitter with images of the artwork.
“The Bronx edition poster will be given for free as a limited release to the public at our Pelham Bay Nature Day & Backpack Giveway in the Bronx tomorrow.”
She also tweeted a poster promoting the Nature Day, which is slated to include nature walks, forest tours, gardening give-aways, and other “hands-on learning.”
Bronx & Queens art is where we’re starting, but we aspire to release custom #GreenNewDeal art for local communities across America.
We are also working on a line of GND reusables!

The poster for Pelham Bay Park, Bronx New York features the city’s skyline mixed with a lot of trees and a futuristic train cruising on a raised platform, the park’s winged victory statue front and center.
The poster for Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens features the same futuristic train, whizzing behind a bustling outdoor space centered on the massive Unisphere fountain installed decades ago.
The project is paid for by AOC’s re-election committee, according to the tiny letters at the bottom.
These posters push us to imagine our future with a Green New Deal in two of our beloved NY-14 parks: Pelham Bay & Flushing Meadows.
All our #GND posters are made in the US, union-printed & will be available for purchase soon, but available at organizing events now.

While many folks online pointed out the posters pose a striking resemblance an art style popular with communist propagandists of yesteryear, AOC alleges the designs are modeled after similar posters used to promote Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal in the 1930s.
Our #GreenNewDeal posters are inspired by the original New Deal, updated for our future.
During the New Deal, FDR launched Federal One, a US project that employed 5,300 artists that created & taught art to envision America’s future.

It even looks like communist propaganda

My first thought too. Really creepy.

Others seemed to think that cutting down trees to print posters to save the planet doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense.
Is this on paper? Made from trees?

“Is this on paper? Made from trees?” sandy questioned.
I think her point was they’re posters. They’re not passing out computer monitors are they? Posters are paper. Isn’t it a little ironic the GND poster displays lavish trees printed on lavish trees? Idk, is it at least recycled paper?

How many trees did they rip up to make these posters???
