Wisconsin Rep. Sean Duffy is serving out his last days in Congress this week and his family came to the Capitol to watch him cast his final votes and say goodbyes.

It was an emotional departure with high praise for Duffy from both sides of the aisle, but his daughter’s chance encounter with Socialist Congresswoman Ilhan Omar may be one of the moments the family remembers most.

“In DC today & the kids went to the Capitol building to vote with their Dad. Walking back from voting, my daughter, Lucia, spots Rep. Ilhan Omar,” Rachel Campos-Duffy, Rep. Duffy’s wife and Fox News personality, posted to Facebook.

“She recognized her from a Maroon 5 ‘Girls Like You’ music video & kindly asked to take a picture with her. Here’s how it went down:

“Lucia: May I take a picture with you?

“Omar: Are you sure your parents are OK with that?

“Rachel: Yes, we’re very tolerant people.

“Omar: You should be accepting, not tolerant.

“Rachel: Right back at you!

“Omar storms off. So much for Lucia’s very genuine attempt at bipartisan fan girling over Maroon 5 …”

The post included a picture of Lucia posing with Omar, both smiling in the sunshine.

Duffy announced in late August that he is resigning from Congress effective Sept. 23 to be with his family through the birth of their ninth child.

“Recently, we’ve learned that our baby, due in late October, will need even more love, time, and attention due to complications, including a heart condition. With much prayer, I have decided that this is the right time for me to take a break from public service in order to be the support my wife, baby and family need right now,” Duffy announced Aug. 26.

“It is not an easy decision – because I truly love being your Congressman – but it is the right decision for my family, which is my first love and responsibility.”

Duffy’s focus on his family stands in stark contrast to the controversy swirling around Omar, who refuses to discuss allegations she married her brother in 2009 to commit immigration fraud. Records show Omar married Ahmed Nur Said Elmi in 2009 and they didn’t divorce until 2017. Omar had one child prior to the marriage with Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi, as well as two during the marriage.

All three reportedly lived at the same address while Said Elmi and Omar attended North Dakota State University, and Omar filed joint tax returns with Hirsi during her marriage to Said Elmi, records show.

Numerous media outlets have reported on the controversy with little to no response from Omar. The Somali refugee denied the accusations she married her brother when questioned during her run for state office, but has since refused to discuss any details.

She has instead insisted that the scandal is motivated by racists and the media “fanning the flames of hate,” RedState reports.

More recently, the wife of Omar’s top political consultant, Tim Mynett, alleged in a Washington, D.C. divorce filing that Mynett “told Plaintiff that he was romantically involved with and in love with another woman, Ilhan Omar.”

The “shocking declaration of love” left Dr. Beth Mynett “devastated by the betrayal and deceit” but she was still “willing to fight for the marriage,” according to court records cited by the New York Post.

“Defendant, however, told her that was not an option for him” and move out, the filing read.

Like the scandal with her brother-husband, Omar denied any romantic relationship with Mynett and refuses to discuss any aspect of her personal life.
