Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer thinks it’s “despicable” that Americans want to know the identity of the so-called whistleblower who sparked the impeachment inquiry against President Trump.

But it’s apparently only despicable if your name isn’t Chuck Schumer.

“Chuck Schumer: No one should reveal the identity of the Whistleblower,” ALX tweeted with a video of Schumer’s comments. “Also Chuck Schumer: If you know who he is, you should let me know.”

The remarks came at a press conference with Senate Democrats on Tuesday.

“The calls to make public the whistleblower’s identity are despicable. The whole purpose of the whistleblower law was to protect people when they had the courage to come forward,” Schumer said.

“This whistleblower is obviously coming forward because he was so concerned about where President Trump was leading America,” he said. “And every single Republican senator, including the Republican leader, ought to denounce this. This has nothing to do with answering questions about the status of impeachment or the status of the trial.

“This has to do with what America is all about and a law that was passed in a bipartisan way,” he said.

A reporter asked Schumer if his perspective would apply to Democrats after the impeachment ordeal is over.

“Whistleblowers should be protected, period. Period,” he said, “and no one knows who he is, or if you do, you should let me know.”

Media reports identify CIA analyst Eric Ciaramella, who worked on Ukraine policy in both the Obama and Trump administrations, as the whistleblower, though House Democrats refuse to confirm the information, as does the whistleblowers attorneys.

According to Real Clear Investigations:

Federal documents reveal that the 33-year-old Ciaramella, a registered Democrat held over from the Obama White House, previously worked with former Vice President Joe Biden and former CIA Director John Brennan, a vocal critic of Trump who helped initiate the Russia “collusion” investigation of the Trump campaign during the 2016 election.

Further, Ciaramella (pronounced char-a-MEL-ah) left his National Security Council posting in the White House’s West Wing in mid-2017 amid concerns about negative leaks to the media. He has since returned to CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia.

“He was accused of working against Trump and leaking against Trump,” said a former NSC official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence matters.

Also, Ciaramella huddled for “guidance” with the staff of House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, including former colleagues also held over from the Obama era whom Schiff’s office had recently recruited from the NSC. Schiff is the lead prosecutor in the impeachment inquiry.

Real Clear Investigations also revealed that Ciaramella was friendly with DNC operative, Alexandra Chalupa, a Ukrainian-American involved in the attempt to link the Trump campaign to Russia, and enjoyed special access to high ranking officials in the Obama administration.

“Everyone knows who he is. CNN knows. The Washington Post knows. The New York Times knows. Congress knows. The White House knows. Even the president knows who he is,” Fred Fleitz, a former CIA analyst and Trump national security advisor, told RCI.
