Dan Rather, the disgraced former CBS News anchor, is lecturing Republicans about lying.

“President Trump likes to boast about how popular he is, and the GOP says the same thing about their policies,” Rather recently posted to Twitter. “Seems like that’s a tell that the whole popularity thing isn’t what they’re saying it is (and they know it.)”

Rather is best known for ruining his illustrious career in 2004 by promoting a series of allegedly fake memos critical of President George W. Bush’s service in the Texas Air National Guard. His own experts disputed the authenticity of the documents, and an investigation by the news site led to the termination of several employees and Rather’s retirement in 2005.

That was a long time ago, but folks on Twitter certainly haven’t forgotten.

“If any one certain person knows anything about using lies to suppress a vote …,” Stephen Miller posted in response to Rather’s musings. “God what an absolute shameless f**king clown.”

“His bio says ‘storyteller.’ Might be the only truth ever written by Dan,” another user wrote.

“At the Twitter drive-thru: ‘Um, yes, I’d like to order the ironiest irony that’s ever been ironied,’” Hippity Do Da joked.

While many took aim at Rather’s credibility, others shot down the substance of his tweet.

“Suppress who’s vote Dan?” OKGirl questioned. “We simply want deceased and illegals off the voting roll. We want voting machines that are not tampered with, identification provided for each voter. Yep, repubs are unreasonable.”

“Trying to figure out what’s so bad about requiring some form of ID to vote,” Tyson added.

Twitchy reports the tone deaf tweet is only the most recent incident of the former newsman being Rather ridiculous.

Just 10 days ago Rather appeared on CNN’s Reliable Sources, and the mockery wrote itself.

“Irony is dead,” Jim Hanson posted.
