This controversy is for the birds.

Someone has been outfitting pigeons in Las Vegas with tiny cowboy hats, and animal rescue activists are very concerned about it.

Check out this video of a “rat with wings” strutting around, pecking at a parking lot and looking fly in its red headwear:

Another pigeon was seen perched atop a building as if it was John Wayne protecting a Wild West town:

For activists though, it’s no laughing matter.

“Did they glue them? And what does that mean for them?” Mariah Hillman, who runs “Lofty Hopes,” said, according to Fox 32. “Is it something that’s going to impede their flight or attract predators?”

“Lofty Hopes” bills itself as “a pigeon positive movement.” Hillman says her first reaction was that the hats were “cute,” but then she wondered on they got on the birds’ heads.

Hillman says she’s looking for leads to track down the birds and remove their hats.

“We drove up and down here yesterday for a good two hours just handing out business cards to any location where I saw pigeons and people,” Hillman tells Fox 5. “If you see these birds, just feed them until I get here. I’m only 3 miles away and I’ll come trap them.”
