While Democrats in America mourn the death of Iranian military leader Qasem Soleimani in an airstrike in Iraq, folks who live in the region are celebrating in the streets and at home.

Iran reporter Heshmat Alavi posted several videos of festivities across Iraq.

“Baghdad, #Iraq More beautiful scenes of Iraqis celebrating the killing of #Iran’s IRGC Quds Force chief Qasim Soleimani,” Alavi tweeted early Friday.

The footage showed a large crowd of mostly young men dancing in the street with music blasting. Several in the crowd carried child in a box above their heads as others pumped their fists and shovels in the air.

“Nasiriyah, southern #Iraq Iraqis celebrating the killing of #Iran’s IRGC Quds Force chief Qasim Soleimani,” Alavi wrote in another post. “My take: True Iraqis are celebrating. Tehran-backed militia members/supporters in Iraq are mourning.”

The accompanying video showed more of the same, masked men dancing in celebration and shouting in Arabic.

In a video from Thursday, rowdy protestors in Iraq hoisted a banner with Soleimani and Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei with bloody Xs across their faces.

“Iraqis long considered #Iran’s dictator @Khamenei_ir & IRGC Quds Force chief Qasim Soleimani as the source of all their miseries,” Alavi wrote with the video. “Soleimani was the commander of Tehran’s conglomerate of proxies in Iraq & across the Middle East, responsible for killing hundreds of thousands.”

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also posted video of Iraqis celebrating Soleimani’s death.

It is the same deal in Iran, where folks are reportedly celebrating with pastry parties.

“#Iranians in Iran are celebrating the death of Qasem Soleimani. The regime has announced three days of mourning for its ‘irreplacable’ top commander while ordinary Iranians have announced three days of celebrations,” the Iran News Wire, an outfit “dedicated to honest and reliable reporting,” posted to Twitter on Friday, along with a picture of a celebratory food spread.

In another video, “An #Iranian family dances in their home after hearing about the ‘terrorist Soleimani’s’ death while chanting ‘death to dictator.’”

The news site also relayed messages from inside the country.

“Message from #Iran: These pastries are for the death of Soleimani. We didn’t have money to buy more. All the pastry shops were crowded. #FreeIran2020,” Iran News Wire posted.

“An #Iranian from Rasht, N #Iran: After hearing Soleimani’s death, I felt like I’d been given billions of tomans. I took the day off. This will make the families of fallen protesters, killed in #IranProtests very happey. Everyone celebrated & put on loud music in their cars,” another post read.

The reaction stands in stark contrast to Democrats in America who condemned the targeted attack on Soleimani, who is credited with the deaths and misery of millions.

Congresswoman Chris Murphy conflated the targeted attack on the Iran-sponsored terrorist – retaliation for the attack on the U.S. embassy in Baghdad – with a proclamation of war.

“The question is this – as reports suggest, did America just assassinate, without any congressional authorization, the second most powerful person in Iran, knowingly setting off a potential massive regional war?” Murphy posted to Twitter.

That post came two days after he complained “the attack on our embassy in Baghdad is horrifying but predictable. … No one fears us, no one listens to us. America has been reduced to huddling in safe rooms, hoping the bad guys will go away. What a disgrace.”

Now the bad guy is dead, but Murphy, Socialist Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and other Democrats on Capitol Hill seem to think that’s a bad thing.

“So what if Trump wants war, knows this leads to war and needs the distraction?” Omar tweeted. “Real question is, will those with congressional authority step in and stop him? I know I will.”

Socialist Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, as well as 2020 Democratic presidential frontrunner Joe Biden, also condemned the airstrike that killed Soleimani.

Despite confirmation from the U.S. State Department that Soleimani “was actively developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region,” Sanders used the incident to twist Trump.

“Trump’s dangerous escalation brings us closer to another disastrous war in the Middle East that could cost countless lives and trillions more dollars,” Sanders told ABC News. “Trump promised to end endless wars, but this action puts us on the path to another one.”

Biden alleged “President Trump just tossed a stick of dynamite into a tinderbox, and he owes the American people an explanation of the strategy and plan to keep safe our troops and embassy personnel, our people and our interests, both here at home and abroad, and our partners throughout the region and beyond.”

Biden said “no American will mourn Qassem Soleimani’s passing” because he “supported terror and sowed chaos” but “he deserved to be brought to justice for his crimes against American troops and thousands of innocents throughout the region.”

Like Biden, Warren leveraged Soleimani’s death to target Trump, despite the clear threat she admits he posed to the U.S.

“Soleimani was a murderer, responsible for the deaths of thousands, including hundreds of Americans,” Warren prefaced in her Twitter response, “but this reckless move escalates the situation with Iran and increases the likelihood of more deaths and new Middle East conflict. Our priority must be to avoid another costly war.”

The Trump administration, meanwhile, has more important priorities.

The State Department explained Soleimani and his Quds Force “had orchestrated attacks on coalition bases in Iraq of the last several months – including the attack on December 27th – culminating in the death and wounding of additional American and Iraqi personnel.”

Trump decision to end his life “was aimed at deterring future Iranian attack plans,” the statement read.

“The United States will continue to take all necessary action to protect our people and our interests wherever they are around the world.”
