The Today show asked for Bernie Sanders’ forgiveness after asking the 78-year-old politician who recently suffered a heart attack about his age and health.

Savannah Guthrie was quizzing Sanders over his physical fitness to be president, and Sanders tried to sidestep the question.

Guthrie said, “What do you say to those who feel like it’s a little risky to nominate a 78-year-old man who had a heart attack a few months ago?”

Sanders tried to flip the question on its head by pointing out that with his old age comes long experience in government.

“That’s a separate issue,” Guthrie interjected as Sanders hit the standard talking points about wealth and “corporate greed.”

“And that speaks to your experience and there can be a debate about that but the question was about your health. What about if somebody’s worried about someone of your age — forgive me — who just had a heart attack,” she said.

“I think you look at the totality of the candidate. Every candidate has strengths and weaknesses,” he said.

“I would not be running, I would not be here today if I were not healthy, if I were not healthy,” Sanders added.
