The Indian state of Maharashtra is using long-term hand stamps on coronavirus patients as an accountability measure to warn the public that the bearer may be affected by the disease.

Authorities will stamp the hand of a patient that reads “HOME QUARANTINED,” along with an expiration date.

The ink reportedly lasts for 14 days.

Four passengers were pulled off a train in the country after being spotted with hand stamps.

According to Asian News International, the four had flown from Germany into India before they were spotted.

The news agency said the individuals were “defying the protocol.”
