First there was the “Greatest Generation” — those now in their 80s and 90s who saved the free world from Hitler’s fascism.

Now, we have the “Gayest Generation,” those 20-somethings of whom 7 percent claim LGBT status, a new report finds.

Millennials are regularly branded as lazy, spoiled, entitled, self-centered, selfie-obsessed, and technology-dependent by older generations, Medical Daily notes, but they’re also claiming to be something other than heterosexual at twice the adult average – 3.5 percent.

The report from the Public Religion Research Institute also finds a plurality of millennials – 33 percent – consider themselves “religiously unaffiliated.”

There is a dramatic drop in those self-identifying as Christians.

“While less than one-third (31 percent) of millennials identify as white, non-Hispanic Christians, nearly seven in ten (68 percent) seniors do,” according to the study.

As for politics, nearly half – 47 percent – of those surveyed consider themselves “politically independent,” while 29 percent say they’re Democrats and only 17 percent say they’re Republicans.

It continues:

Roughly equal numbers of millennials identify as conservative (30%), moderate (30%), and liberal (33%), representing a significant shift from the general public and older Americans. Among the general public, conservatives hold a sizable advantage over liberals (37% vs. 28%, respectively). The ideological divide is even wider among seniors, among whom nearly half (45%) identify as conservative, compared to less than one-quarter (22%) who identify as liberal.

Despite the clear Democratic slant, only 53 percent approve of President Obama’s job performance, while 44 percent do not. The study finds 87 percent of black millennials give the president positive marks, while 66 percent of Hispanics do. The president meets the approval of only 40 percent of whites.

Fifty-three percent of millennials say the country has gotten “pretty seriously off on the wrong track.”
