After the American Mirror and the Drudge Report linked to a story on Bill Clinton’s appearance in Memphis, Tennessee Thursday, the newspaper changed a quote in its article in which the former president criticized President Obama.

The Commercial Appeal’s original story, posted Thursday read:

But in talking about the struggles of middle- and lower-class America, Clinton was met with silence when he said President Barack Obama wasn’t a “change-maker” like Hillary. He clarified a few sentences later that Obama has had accomplishments, including the Affordable Care Act.

Late Friday, that portion was “clarified” changed to:

But in talking about the struggles of middle- and lower-class America, Clinton said the country’s financial system is “rigged.”

“Yeah, it’s rigged, because you don’t have a president who’s a change-maker, who, with a Congress who will work with him. But the president has done a better job than he has gotten credit for.”

The top of the story now reads, “This story has been changed to clarify a quote in the 10th and 11th paragraphs.”

MSNBC aired the quote and host Chris Hayes’s reaction says it all:

Why is the Commercial Appeal covering for Bill Clinton?
