Pete Buttigieg made a hasty getaway after protesters heckled his appearance at a union picket.

Buttigieg was in Charleston, South Carolina and was confronted with chants of “He can’t be our president/Where was 15 in South Bend?” outside a McDonald’s restaurant.

Watch via WYFF:

“No matter who you support, I support you. We support you. We stand together,” he said as hecklers shouted back at him over a $15 minimum wage effort.

The agitators drowned out Buttigieg with the chants, and he quickly fled.

Members of the media followed the candidate, who walked towards a busy road and away from the restaurant. But it wasn’t far enough away, as the protesters followed close behind and continued to heckle Buttigieg.

It was chaos as the protesters followed and Buttigieg’s security and campaign volunteers attempted to shield him.

They continued to chant as he tried to talk to members of the media.

Buttigieg jumped into an awaiting SUV admi boos and jeers.

A woman in a Pete t-shirt, and at least one other, blocked the hecklers from getting near the vehicle and attacking it, which was poised to make a quick getaway.

The Suburban sped away as they continued to chant, “He’s can’t be our president/Where was 15 in South Bend?”
