Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has released her “Green New Deal,” and it’s far worse — and more hilarious — than many previously thought.
The New York lawmaker released the legislation, co-authored by Sen. Ed Markey, D-MA, on Thursday through National Public Radio, and it’s pure socialism.
As noted by The Daily Beast’s Lachlan Markay, the legislation calls for every single building in the United States to be “upgraded or replaced.”

That’s right, taxpayer will be stuck footing the bill for millions of buildings in the country being upgraded or completely replaced.
The socialist “Green New Deal” begins by claiming “human activity is the dominant cause of observed climate change over the past century.”
The measure then asserts that “a changing climate is causing sea levels to rise and an increase in wildfires, severe storms, droughts, and other extreme weather events that threaten human life.”
This is a highly speculative claim that several scientists who endorse anthropogenic global warming have been hesitant to support.
Ocasio-Cortez and Markey go on to argue that the United States will lose $500 billion in annual output by 2100 due to climate change.
If true, that’s a very tiny percentage compared to the estimated $7 trillion that the “Green New Deal” will cost taxpayers to implement.
Not missing the chance to peddle liberal talking points, the bill actually argues that climate change has “exacerbated systemic racial … injustices” as well as other inequalities.
The legislation goes on to argue that its goal is to secure “community resiliency” and “repairing historic oppression” of almost every class of victims the authors can imagine.
It’s unclear how that has anything to do with the environment.
The core of the Green New Deal is to require the U.S. to eliminate “pollution and greenhouse gas emissions” and meet “100 percent of the power demand in the United States through clean, renewable, and zero-emission energy sources” within 10 years.
The bill makes no mention of the 70 percent marginal income tax that Ocasio-Cortez has boasted about countless times, which the left-leaning NPR admits it would cost “trillions upon trillions of dollars” to implement the Green New Deal.
In fact, Ocasio-Cortez even admitted to NPR that her “Green New Deal” will require a “massive government intervention.”
“As you know, congresswoman, one reason that people are politically conservative are skeptical of efforts to combat climate change is that it sounds to them like it requires massive government intervention, which they just don’t like,” NPR’s Steve Inskeep asked. “Are you prepared to put on that table that, ‘Yes actually they’re right, what this requires is massive government intervention’?”
“It does, it does, yeah, I have no problem saying that,” Ocasio-Cortez quickly replied. “Why? Because we have tried their approach for 40 years. For 40 years we have tried to let the private sector take care of this. They said, ‘We got this, we can do this, the forces of the market are going to force us to innovate.’”
“Except,” she continued, “for the fact that there’s a little thing in economics called externalities. And what that means is that a corporation can dump pollution in the river and they don’t have to pay, but taxpayers have to pay.”
Even Democrats are skeptical of the legislation, which House Speaker Nancy Pelosi threw shade at on Thursday.
When asked about the proposal, Pelosi accidentally referred to it as the “Green Dream” and appeared to suggest that it may not even get the full attention from House Democrats.
“It will be one of several or maybe many suggestions that we receive,” Speaker Pelosi told Politico on Wednesday. “The green dream or whatever they call it, nobody knows what it is, but they’re for it right?”
