Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez both argue that climate change will end the world, but can’t seem to agree on when it’ll happen.
During a speech Wednesday on the Senate floor, Schumer criticized President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address for not making an issue out of “climate change.”
“He talked about the future of America and didn’t even mention climate change. How could you do that?” Schumer complained.
The New York Democrat then claimed that “every” scientist agrees that climate change will end the plane t– which isn’t true — and then struggled to narrow down when the doomsday scenario would actually happen.
“Every scientist who has studied it knows that in the next 10, 20, 30 or 40 years, climate change is going to evoke huge changes in our country and in our world,” Schumer said.
“If you believe in the future and you want to have a good future for our children and grandchildren, which we all do, you can’t ignore climate change,” he added.
Schumer continued, “You may have different views on it, but you can’t ignore it.”
Ocasio-Cortez echoed a similar tune this week, but she actually thinks the world is going to end much sooner that Schumer’s prediction.
Ocasio-Cortez released the legislation, co-authored by Sen. Ed Markey, D-MA, on Thursday through National Public Radio.
The 29-year-old former bartender argues that the world is going to end in 12 years if climate change isn’t addressed by her “Green New Deal,” which is nothing more than a massive socialist power grab.
Her legislation calls for every single building in the United States — meaning over one hundred million of them — to either be “upgraded or replaced.”
The socialist “Green New Deal” begins by claiming “human activity is the dominant cause of observed climate change over the past century,” and that we have just over a decade to solve the issue.
Ocasio-Cortez and Markey go on to argue that the United States will lose $500 billion in annual output by 2100 due to climate change.
If true, that’s a very tiny percentage compared to the estimated $7 trillion that the “Green New Deal” will cost taxpayers to implement.
The core of the Green New Deal is to require the U.S. to eliminate “pollution and greenhouse gas emissions” and meet “100 percent of the power demand in the United States through clean, renewable, and zero-emission energy sources” within 10 years.
Ocasio-Cortez admits that her legislation would require a “massive government intervention,” and that increasing taxes to historic levels across won’t be enough to accomplish what she wants.
It’s highly unlikely that this bill will pass in Congress. But Schumer believes we still have up to 40 years left before climate change wipes everyone out, so Ocasio-Cortez has more time to work on it.
